We are excited to have students back in our school buildings and working with our teachers and staff, but we need your help!! In order to adhere to safety protocols and cohorting requirements, we need additional support in all of our schools to provide cafeteria and recess supervision. We are facing a number of staffing challenges, to be able to continue serving students in-person we are in need of essential volunteers to assist with lunchroom and recess/break supervision. (Please note that while we enjoy having visitors and volunteers in our schools, at this time, we are not able to have classroom volunteers in our schools).

As our district’s two-week pause in response to the Governor’s travel advisory comes to an end tomorrow, we would like to confirm that we will be returning to LIPI on December 14th, as had been noted when the pause was announced.

On Tuesday, November 17, Governor Kate Brown issued an Executive Order 20-65 to help curb the spread of COVID-19 in Oregon. This two-week statewide freeze includes new measures to restrict social gatherings and limit higher-risk exposure opportunities by taking such measures as closing gyms and recreation facilities, limiting restaurants and bars to take-out options only, and issuing travel advisories for out-of-state travel. All of these measures are aimed at ensuring our hospitals and medical facilities are able to meet the needs of our sickest patients. If followed successfully, these measures will also ensure we are able to return all our students to in-person learning environments sooner.
The Governor also has issued a travel advisory. If staff or families choose to travel for Thanksgiving or to congregate in groups of more than 6 people and/or more than 2 households over the break then those staff and students should plan to quarantine for 14 days after that if they travel outside of the area.
Our plan is to continue in our current model, which includes Comprehensive Distance Learning for All in the mornings and then bringing some students into our buildings, K-12, for LIPI in the afternoons on Monday, November 23rd and Tuesday, November 24th.
After the Thanksgiving break, beginning Monday, November 30th to Friday December 11th, students will participate in Comprehensive Distance Learning for All in the morning according to their current class schedule; virtual office hours will continue to be held as previously scheduled in the afternoon.
From Monday November 30th through Friday December 11th, students who are currently participating in Limited In Person Instruction in the afternoon will meet with their teachers virtually rather than coming into the buildings for on-site instruction. If your child was served in person for LIPI and needs continued access to the internet on campus, please contact your building principal by the end of the day on Tuesday, November 23rd to make arrangements for continued access to school internet. We want to continue the level of learning, the support students have gained from their teachers, and continue the LIPI model, but we need to do that in an online format for this 2-week period following Thanksgiving due to the continued rise in COVID-19 cases in Lane County.
On Monday, December 14th we plan to have students back for live Distance Learning for All in the mornings and to resume in-person services for our students K-12, for LIPI, in the afternoons. Bringing students back in person, even for only one week before break, is our ultimate goal. In that week, teachers can reconnect with students, support their academic needs, as well as support students’ social emotional well being. We will keep you informed in the event that Lane Co metrics require a change in our plan to bring students back to our campuses on Monday, December 14th.
November 23-24: CDL with on-site LIPI in the afternoon
November 25: Applied Learning in morning
November 30-December 11: CDL with virtual LIPI in the afternoon
December 14-December 18: return to CDL with on-site LIPI in the afternoon
The Governor’s Executive Order also has impacts on K-12 athletics and activities. On Wednesday, November 18th the Oregon Health Authority released guidance for school athletics which are effective immediately (see below), check the JCHS website for more information.
Statewide Freeze Guidance —Outdoor K-12 School Sports, Limited Return to Play
Finally, we would like to encourage you to continue strictly following the health guidelines around face coverings, social distancing, staying home when you or someone in your home is sick, limiting social gatherings and refraining from traveling unless absolutely necessary. If we all work together, this will help us all return to the great work of connecting with our students safely, sooner. Thank you for your support in limiting the spread of COVID-19 so that we can safely return to the important work of in-person teaching and learning.
