6-8th Social Studies Curriculum

 

The state social studies adoption cycle is taking place during the 2025–2026 school year, with implementation expected in fall 2026. Due to budget reductions, our district chose to postpone participation in this adoption cycle, a decision approved by the board in October 2025. In the meantime, 6-8th grade teachers will continue using the previously approved materials: Savvas: MyWorld. 

 

Savvas myWorld Interactive is a social studies program designed for middle school students that helps them explore history, geography, civics, and economics in an engaging and meaningful way. The program connects what students learn in class to real-world issues, encouraging them to think critically and understand different perspectives.

 

Students learn through a combination of digital and print materials, including interactive maps, videos, primary sources, and hands-on activities. Lessons are built around essential questions that guide students to investigate topics, analyze information, and develop their own ideas.

 

6th Grade: MyWorld Interactive World History

7th Grade: MyWorld Interactive Geography

8th Grade: MyWorld Interactive American History

Oregon Social Studies Standards 

The Oregon 2024 Social Science Standards were formally adopted by the State Board of Education on June 13, 2024. These updated standards, which focus on comprehensive history, civics, geography, and economics, are required for K-12 implementation by the 2026-2027 school year.
