6-8th Math Curriculum

Iready Math

Iready Math was adopted and approved by the board in the spring of 2023 with implementation starting in the fall of 2023.

iReady Classroom Mathematics 2024 is a robust program that will help your student become a strong, independent mathematical thinker. The program uses an enhanced and strategic approach to math instruction, focusing on reason, problem solving, and student-to-student conversations about conceptual mastery.  Students have the opportunity to tackle complex concepts, and hone their critical thinking skills about mathematics.

The program:
Encourages students to develop a deeper understanding of mathematics concepts through productive struggle.
Builds on students' prior knowledge with lessons that make connections within and across grade levels and directly address the major focus of the grade.
Incorporates a classroom mathematics routine called "Try-Discuss-Connect" that promotes conversations and increases accessibility of mathematics for all students.

Oregon Math Standards

On October 21, 2021, the State Board of Education adopted the Oregon Mathematics Standards, which represent K-12 learning expectations in mathematics for all students and are a foundational expectation of the Oregon Diploma.

Assessment

STAR Math is an online assessment used in 6-8 that helps teachers understand your child’s math skills and growth throughout the year. Students take the test on a computer or tablet, and it typically takes about 20–30 minutes to complete.

The assessment is adaptive, meaning the questions adjust in difficulty based on your child’s responses. This allows each student to receive questions that are just the right level—providing a more accurate picture of what they know and can do.

STAR Math measures skills across a range of areas, including number sense, operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data, and probability. The results highlight both strengths and areas where additional support may be helpful.

Students take STAR Math three times a year as a benchmark to track overall progress, and teachers may also use it more frequently to monitor growth and guide instruction.
