K-5 Math Curriculum

McGraw Hill Reveal Math

Reveal was adopted and approved by the board in the spring of 2023 with implementation starting in the fall of 2023..

Reveal Math is a comprehensive elementary math program designed to help students build deep understanding and confidence in math. It blends hands-on activities with clear teacher instruction so children learn not just how to solve problems, but why math works.

In the classroom, students explore math through real-world situations, discussions, and problem-solving tasks. Teachers guide learning in a way that meets students where they are, offering support or challenge as needed. This balanced approach helps all learners grow and develop strong math skills.

The program is thoughtfully organized across grades K–5, so each year builds on the last. This creates a smooth and consistent learning experience as students progress through elementary school.

What this means for your child:
  • They will develop strong problem-solving and critical thinking skills
  • They will see how math connects to everyday life
  • They will build confidence through both guided instruction and hands-on learning
  • They will experience a consistent and supportive math journey year after year

Oregon Math Standards

On October 21, 2021, the State Board of Education adopted the Oregon Mathematics Standards, which represent K-12 learning expectations in mathematics for all students and are a foundational expectation of the Oregon Diploma.

Assessment

STAR Math is an online assessment used in K-5 that helps teachers understand your child’s math skills and growth throughout the year. Students take the test on a computer or tablet, and it typically takes about 20–30 minutes to complete.

The assessment is adaptive, meaning the questions adjust in difficulty based on your child’s responses. This allows each student to receive questions that are just the right level—providing a more accurate picture of what they know and can do.

STAR Math measures skills across a range of areas, including number sense, operations, algebra, geometry, measurement, data, and probability. The results highlight both strengths and areas where additional support may be helpful.

Students take STAR Math three times a year as a benchmark to track overall progress, and teachers may also use it more frequently to monitor growth and guide instruction.
