If you are having troubles viewing a PDF, it may be the browser you are using. By default, Chrome and Mozilla Firefox use a built-in PDF viewer to open PDFs. You can disable the built-in PDF viewer by following the directions below.

Once you disable the built-in PDF viewer, Mozilla Firefox and Chrome will use Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader to display PDFs. You can also choose to make Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader your default PDF viewer in Mozilla Firefox and Chrome. Here's how:

Open pdf's with Adobe Reader - Chrome
  1. Enter chrome://plugins into your address bar.
  2. Scroll down to either Adobe Acrobat or Adobe Reader. (You'll only see them if you have them installed.)
  3. Click the Enable link.
Open pdf's with Adobe Reader - Firefox

Open your Mozilla Firefox browser.

You know you’re in Firefox when you see the orange fire ball.

Navigate to ‘Tools’

Click ‘Options’

Click the ‘Applications’ icon in the top row.  Then type ‘pdf’ (without quotes) in the search bar.

Under the Content Type, You should see an Adobe listing for PDF’s. When you click the title, Portable Document Format (PDF), it will open a drop-down in the Actions column.

Using the drop-down under the Action header, choose either ‘Use Adobe Acrobat (default)’ or ‘Use Adobe Acrobat (in Firefox)’

Click OK.
