After the war was over, Rickenbacker married and had two sons. He became the owner of several automobile companies and also purchased the same Indianapolis Motor Speedway he had raced on He owned the race track for 18 years. During that time he even had a car made named after him. Just after selling the race track, he became the owner of Eastern Airlines and remained as its head for 21 years. During this time he also volunteered in the army during World War II to be a liason for the U.S. Army. His Eastern Airlines grew and was very successful while he owned it. He finally retired in 1963. He died in Zurich, Switzerland in 1973. One interesting thing about his life was even though he was such a famous driver and pilot, he died never ever having had either a driver's or pilot's license.
